Practice Spanish for Skateboarding: Tricks, Spots & Sessions in Barcelona
Maria, Sofía · Barcelona, Spain
About this episode
You're at the MACBA in Barcelona — white marble ledges, flat ground, pros from every country filming here for thirty years — and someone lands a clean 50-50, the whole plaza reacts, and you have no idea what anyone is saying. Sofía, who grew up in Madrid watching MACBA footage and came to Barcelona as soon as she could, fixes that. She walks Maria through the full vocabulary: the board and its parts (el monopatín, la tabla, los ejes, las ruedas), the spot and the verb (el spot, patinar), the tricks vocabulary every skater will recognize (el truco, el ollie, grindar, la cera), and the words every session ends with — caerse, and pegarse una hostia, the fall phrase that is completely specific to Spain and something you will never hear in Mexico or Colombia. Every scene plays out in Spanish and English side by side, so the next time you're watching a session at any Spanish skate spot, you know exactly what's happening.
