Practice Spanish for Boxing: Wraps, Punches & the Bell

Pablo · Tijuana, Mexico

About this episode

You walk into a boxing gym in Tijuana, the coach starts barking cues in Spanish — "arriba la guardia," "tira el directo," "esquiva" — and you freeze, a half-second behind everyone. Pablo fixes that. He took his friend Danny through one full first session: the warm-up and hand wraps (brincar la cuerda, las vendas), gloves and stance (los guantes, la guardia), shadowboxing in the mirror (la sombra), the heavy bag (el costal, el jab, el directo, el gancho), slipping and the mitts (esquivar, los focos), and the final bell (la campana). Every cue plays out in Spanish and English side by side — so next time you walk into a Mexican gym, you can train instead of translate.
