Practice Spanish for Yoga: Class Cues, Poses in Tulum

Laura · Tulum, Mexico

About this episode

You roll out your mat at a retreat in Tulum, the teacher starts calling cues in Spanish, and suddenly you're a half-second behind everyone — peeking at your neighbor to figure out what "inhala," "alarga la columna," and "perro boca abajo" actually mean. Laura, a Costa Rican yoga teacher, fixes that. She took her friend Kayla through one full morning at a jungle-and-sea retreat: settling in (el retiro, la colchoneta, desconectar), setting an intention and following the breath (pon una intención, inhala, exhala, respira profundo), the warm-up sequence (el saludo al sol, alarga la columna, el perro boca abajo), the poses (el guerrero, el árbol, la postura del niño), and the final rest (savasana, namasté, gracias profe). Every cue plays out in Spanish and English side by side — so next time you step on the mat in Latin America, you can close your eyes and just flow.
